The course is really intensive and requires a lot of your time and effort to make the most of it. You’ll get the most out of it by putting the most into it.

Jacobo from Fall 2018

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

The school trip was really well run, went to great places and was a good look at life outside tokyo

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

Conversation practice, being in a class that was 100% Japanese with many Asian students. Least interesting was sometimes spending half the class just correcting homework. Felt like a waste of time. Some teachers were not as engaging as others and a bit overly strict.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

Pair work / games. Anything that involves needing to speak and use the new grammar points felt useful and the more time speaking made me feel more comfortable with the language.

Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?

The course is really intensive and requires a lot of your time and effort to make the most of it. You’ll get the most out of it by putting the most into it. Talk to your classmates, make friends and do your best to use as much Japanese as you can and you’ll learn a lot quicker than you’d think.

Any other comments or suggestions?

It would be nice to be more open and available to students who feel like they’re struggling, to come and talk to counsellors or teachers. Also in the orientation a lot of warnings are given about places but perhaps there should also be advice given for mental health support networks and even sexual health networks in case students need these.

Testimonials

The most important reason why I selected the program was for its affordability. As a graduate, I am paying for the program through my own personal funds without the help of any university financial aid or scholarships. Affordability and value of the program were essential in my decision, and KCP has exceeded my expectations.
