I found the afternoon sessions really informative and the topics covered a really wide breadth of Japanese culture - from anime to psychology.

Livia from Summer 2015

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

The tea ceremony was very authentic and interesting. Teachers explained exactly what we were learning and it was a beautiful experience. Some of the cultural activities were a little dry - particularly the lectures. I think to run a 3 hour lecture, they need to have more structure than just listening to someone talk randomly on a topic for such a long period of time. The second half of the day involving an activity - eg. Kabuki show, visit to Imperial palace, Asakusa etc. was much more worthwhile.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The study itself was great. The course was intense, high expectations, regular tests, a really holistic view of language study, which I thoroughly enjoyed. As I've already graduated and am currently working, I found the rigidity of the classes a little over the top - eg. attendance taken four times, being unable to leave to use the bathroom, unable to drink water etc. but I understand why it's in place.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

Tests - they definitely put the emphasis on regular revision and study. Also, the 'minna no nihongo' text books are really great.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

I found the afternoon sessions really informative and the topics covered a really wide breadth of Japanese culture - from anime to psychology.

Testimonials

I’m a bargain shopper so I looked at a lot of different study abroad options in Japan before selecting KCP. I was slightly worried because I literally could not find any bad comments about KCP anywhere online, and that made me suspicious. … But the truth is, KCP is simply the best! I have no complaints at all. For anyone seriously interested in learning Japanese, KCP is fast-paced but really fun. I totally recommend it!
