FAQ » Visa

What is the visa processing fee?

If you stay for more than one semester, you need a long-term visa, and we assist you in obtaining it. For that, we charge a visa processing fee of $250. It is refunded if you are not able to get the visa, but this is rare. KCP has an excellent record of obtaining visas on behalf of students.

Can I apply for a visa myself?

No. In most cases you will not be able to apply for a long-term student visa yourself. KCP will need to initiate the process on your behalf.

In order for a student to receive a student visa, a school needs to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility from the Immigration Bureau. If  the application is successful, the Immigration Bureau will send the students Certificate of Eligibility to the school. Once the school receives 2-terms payment, this Certificate is sent to the student. The student will take this document to a local Japanese Consulate that services the region where the student lives, and the Consulate will provide the student with the visa.

Will I need to show financial support in order to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility?

Yes. KCP recommends that students, or a financial supporter, have at least $15,000 in bank accounts in order to obtain the visa. This can be in savings, checking, money market, or even financial aid disbursements. Adequate financial resources are a requirement for obtaining a long-term visa.

Testimonials

The English support at school was great. I talked to the support staff almost every day; they’re very friendly.
